Garden for Birds

Summer: Art in the Garden

Each month, we will invite you to submit a photo showcasing a different aspect of your Garden for Birds journey. The theme for the summer is art in the garden.

Please share with us images of how you have integrated creative artistic features into the garden. Note, if they are water features or nest boxes we may add them to those category pages.

These pictures could depict a multitude of things:

  • Climbing trellis.

  • Sculpture or other creative structures for visual appeal.

  • Signs or painted plant labels that show-off your native plants.
  • Globes or other colorful features integrated into garden beds

If birds are using them for nesting (see picture), all the better, but not necessary.

 

Trellis

We installed a new garden this spring with a trellis for climbing natives surrounded by native shrubs and perennials. While the garden is still young within two days American Robins had built a nest where we intentionally added a "roof" in case the birds wanted to nest. Photo by Becca Rodomsky-Bish.

A chance to win!

All individuals who submit a photo in accordance with the Content License Agreement (below) will be entered into a random drawing to win one of several prizes at the end of the growing season. By submitting photos, you agree to the following Content License Agreement:

I hereby grant to Cornell University on behalf of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (“Cornell Lab”), a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable and perpetual license, in all media (print, electronic, or other), to use, distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, and publicly display any and all photos I submit through the Garden for Birds webpage(s) .
  2. I verify that the photos are my original work and do not infringe on the legal rights of any third party.
  3. I agree that I will hold the licensees harmless from any claims, actions, demands, liabilities, losses, damages, costs, or expenses of any kind (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from a breach of the foregoing warranties.
  4. I understand that I am solely responsible for protecting my copyright in the photos from infringement by a third party; the licensees are not responsible for pursuing such claims on my behalf.
  5. The licensees reserve the right to use/not use and/or dispose of the photos as deemed appropriate.
  6. I confirm that I am 18 years old or older and have read and understand the terms of this Agreement.
  7. I understand this license shall be interpreted by the laws of the State of New York, regardless of conflicts of laws principles.
