What they eat: Golden-crowned Sparrows eat many insects, seeds, and fruits. They tend to visit ground feeders looking for most kinds of seeds, fruit, and wheat.
Where they live: They have a small range, spending winter along the west coast of the U.S. and moving up to southern Alaska and very western Canada in the summer.
Did you know? The Golden-crowned Sparrow’s depressing, tired song earned it the nickname “Weary Willie” back in the early twentieth century.
How they sound: These birds have a downward sliding song of melancholy whistles. |
