April: Invite Birds to Nest
Each month, we will invite you to submit a photo showcasing a different aspect of your Garden for Birds journey. The theme for April is Inviting Nesting Birds!
Please share with us images of how you are gettting ready to invite nesting birds to your property. These pictures could depict a multitude of things:

A snag (dead tree) that you are leaving for cavity nesters.

Nest box or birdhouse you installed for cavity nesters.

Shrubby area where cup nesters love to build.

Animal hair (that is not flea or tick treated) that you are leaving accessible for birds to find for building.
- Predator guard installed to protect eggs and nestlings.
William Custer in Vermont shared beauitful pictures of the birdhouses he is adding to his property this year to support nesting birds. One he designed himself.

All individuals who submit a photo in accordance with the Content License Agreement (below) will be entered into a random drawing to win one of several prizes at the end of the growing season. One lucky winner will win a FREE pair of Zeiss Terra 8x42 binoculars. Binoculars will be distributed after December 1, 2026. Binoculars valued at $499.

By submitting photos, you agree to the following Content License Agreement:
- I hereby grant to Cornell University on behalf of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (“Cornell Lab”), a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable and perpetual license, in all media (print, electronic, or other), to use, distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, and publicly display any and all photos I submit through the Garden for Birds webpage(s) .
- I verify that the photos are my original work and do not infringe on the legal rights of any third party.
- I agree that I will hold the licensees harmless from any claims, actions, demands, liabilities, losses, damages, costs, or expenses of any kind (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from a breach of the foregoing warranties.
- I understand that I am solely responsible for protecting my copyright in the photos from infringement by a third party; the licensees are not responsible for pursuing such claims on my behalf.
- The licensees reserve the right to use/not use and/or dispose of the photos as deemed appropriate.
- I confirm that I am 18 years old or older and have read and understand the terms of this Agreement.
- I understand this license shall be interpreted by the laws of the State of New York, regardless of conflicts of laws principles.
